The winners of the 2011 Prix Aurora Awards, the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Awards, which are presented by the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Association, were announced on 20 November during SFContario 2, Canvention 31, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Best English Novel was WWW: Watch (Penguin Canada), by Robert J. Sawyer. In addition to the trophy given to all winner, Mr. Sawyer received a cash prize of $500 from SF Canada, the National Association for Speculative Fiction Professionals.
The award for Best English Short Story went to “The Burden of Fire” (Neo-Opsis #19), by Hayden Trenholm, while “The ABCs of the End of the World” (A Verdant Green), by Carolyn Clink, was voted the Best English Poem/Song. the Best English Graphic Novel was Goblins (goblinscomic.com), by Tarol Hunt, and the Best English Related Work was The Dragon and the Stars (DAW), edited by Derwin Mak and Eric Choi.
The Best Artist award, open to both professional and amateur artists, went to Erik Mohr, for his cover art for ChiZine Publications.
To be eligible for the awards, a writer or artist must be either a Canadian citizen or a landed immigrant. Canadian citizens living abroad are also eligible for the awards.
Besides the English awards winners, awards were also given to French-language works in the categories of Best Novel, Best Short Story, Best Poem/Song, Best Graphic Novel and Best Related Work.
The Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Awards have been presented annually since 1980, with the exception of 1984, and have been known as the Prix Aurora Awards since 1991.
