The TransAtlantic Fan Fund (TAFF), created in 1953 to provide funds so that well-known science-fiction fans can cross the Atlantic to attend conventions, has announced the candidates for its 2012 ballot.
TAFF regularly helps American fans attend conventions in Europe and helps European fans to go to conventions in North America.
There are three nominees this year, including Warren Buff, who was nominated by James Bacon, Paul Cornell, Chris Garcia, Gim Illingsworth and Lloyd Penney; Kim G. Kofmel, who was nominated by Flick, Brad Foster, Jeanne Gomoll, Alice Lawson, and Pat Virzi/Mueller; and Jacqueline Monahan, who was nominated by Sandra bond, Nic Farey, Steve Green, Curt Phillips and John Purcell.
The candidates, who must be nominated by five people on both sides of the Atlantic, were required to submit a written platform or 100 words or less, post a bond of UK£10.00 or US$20.00 as a required donation to the organization and had to promise to travel to EasterCon 2012 if they win the fan vote.
Besides attending EasterCon, scheduled to be held 6 – 9 April 2012 in London, the winner will administer TAFF for two years and is also expected to help in fundraising for the organization and to help raise TAFF’s public profile. The winner is also expected to write a trip report following their TAFF experience.
Voting is open to anyone active in fandom prior to December 2010 and who donates at least UK£2 or US$3 to TAFF. Ballots must be received by the administrators by 23:59 on 9 December 2011 (GMT in Europe, MST in North America).
