Activision has announced a new Transformers game for the Xbox and PS3, the Fall of Cybertron.
It’s the follow up to the War for Cybertron, which was released in June 2010, with this game slated for an autumn 2012 launch.
The latest instalment of Autobot versus Decepticon action is currently under development at High Moon Studios, who have given Game Informer magazine an exclusive cover feature and the first details on what will be on offer.
Fall of Cybertron will see the two sides fight for control of their dying planet in its final hours, with the storyline culminating in their exodus from their home world.
There will definitely be a darker tone for this one, but details are thin on the ground, with Game Informer staying tight-lipped and basking in their exclusive for the moment.
Apparently more details will be revealed soon on the website, and not just in the hefty magazine article (which runs to 12 pages).
David Oxford, Executive Vice President at Activision Publishing, called Fall of Cybertron an “extraordinary project both for the studio and the Transformers gaming legacy – the stakes are higher and the scale much larger than ever before.”
Mark Blecher, SVP of Digital Media and Marketing at Hasbro, commented: “Hasbro has worked hand in hand with Activision to create a fully original storyline that details the climactic battles leading to the famed exodus of the Transformers characters from Cybertron.”
The original War for Cybertron game was fairly well received by the press, and even more appreciated by the fans. Apparently the campaign was deemed a little too brief and the story not strong enough, but the multiplayer was very much liked.
We’d imagine the devs will be sticking to the War for Cybertron model for the sequel, and not going towards the more recent Dark of the Moon games.
