There’s more news from the timelines regarding your favourite Doctor and pals, but unfortunately, it’s not of the good variety.

According to the latest issue of Doctor Who magazine, the next season of the Doc, number seven, won’t be airing come the spring of next year.

In fact, it won’t start until the autumn of 2012, a year from now, meaning there’s going to be quite a wait between seasons this time around.

The other question is whether the run will be split, as it was this year – although if it is, instead of spring/autumn as we’ve had in 2011, the second half will be pushed to 2013.

Previous rumours have suggested the idea that this might be the case to spread the budget for one series over two years. These are tough times everywhere, of course, and the Beeb is no exception.

We won’t be completely Who-less between a couple of weeks time (the close of the current series) and next September, however.

Of course there’s the ever-present Christmas special, although if it’s anything like as bad as last year’s, we’ll probably stick to getting a second helping of cold sprouts.

News has emerged of Bill Bailey getting a role in the Xmas episode, which will be set in World War II. He’ll be joined by a number of other famous TV faces, including Claire Skinner (the mum in Outnumbered) and Arabella Weir (off the Fast Show).

Whatever happens, it can’t possibly be any worse than the last one.

The BBC might even throw in another one-off episode between the new year and start of season seven, given that fans will be waiting nine months without the Doc otherwise.
