You may not remember the late eighties TV series, Beauty and the Beast.

To be quite honest, we’d pretty much forgotten about it until news surfaced that there was another possible reboot – or two – of a retro TV franchise on the cards.

Beauty and the Beast starred Ron Perlman (who later became Hellboy, and Conan’s father in the just released Barbarian flick) as the beast type thing which looked a bit like a sad lion-man, and Linda Hamilton (Terminator) as his beauty.

While we didn’t watch it – in fact, we think we kept it at bay with our lengthy barge pole – the show was pretty popular (certainly in the States) with its exploration of inner beauty.

We also didn’t realise that it listed George RR Martin amongst its writers – he who penned the excellent Game of Thrones.

Anyway, if like us you missed this first time around, then it seems as if you’re going to get another chance to see the beast woo his beauty. Or indeed, two chances.

According to TVLine’s sources, the CW Network is developing a reboot which will have Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper writing the script as well as executive producing.

And at the same time, rumour has it ABC is also planning its version, albeit a more fantastical take than the original TV series, which was a hybrid of a police drama and romance.

So potentially we could have two Beauties and Beasts winging their way onto TV screens in the not-too-distant future. Or one (or indeed both) could fall by the wayside. We’ll keep you up to date with what we hear.
