Microsoft has announced that it will be implementing the Xbox Live service in the next edition of the Windows operating system.
Larry Hryb of Microsoft confirmed the news on his blog in which he included an image of what the system could look like on a Windows platform.
The blog said that this will bring “games, music, movies, and TV shows to your favourite Microsoft and Windows devices.”
“Bringing Xbox LIVE to Windows 8 is part of our vision to bring you all the entertainment you want, shared with the people you care about, made easy.”
Windows 8 was officially unveiled as the name of the next version of Microsoft’s desktop OS in early June, and a number of features and improvements over Windows 7 have since been announced.
Mr Hryb described the feeling amongst staffers at Microsoft as being “very excited about Xbox LIVE coming to Windows 8.”
There were few details revealed but the blog did state that more information would be released in the near future.
The news will come as little surprise to some after Mike Delman, Microsoft’s interactive entertainment marketing chief, said earlier this year that they hope to make Live “the pervasive media service across devices.”
The idea is that consoles, computers and smartphones will all be able to run Live for a seamless gaming experience between them.
