The fifth instalment in the Elder Scrolls series is rumbling onto our role-playing horizons.
With just two months to go before release, Skyrim is receiving plenty of preview and hands-on play attention from the gaming press.
So we thought it would be an idea to round-up a few bits from the latest previews and news regarding the highly anticipated Bethesda RPG.
The latest morsel of news to drop into our lap is the fact that players will again be susceptible to becoming vampires in Skyrim. This time around, however, sunlight will be a danger to the pointy-teeth pale posse.
Although on the plus side, your strength will be boosted, and you’ll be able to chomp on living creatures. And count to twelve really loudly complete with a booming laugh, possibly.
So what else can we expect? A streamlined character building system for starters, with a minimum of stats to fiddle around with, but a whole lot of Fallout style choices in terms of skills and perks.
Combat has been considerably tweaked on both the melee and magic front. Wizards will be able to use spells differently, and combine incantations from different schools of magic for varying results.
As for swordplay, tweaks have apparently been made to make blocking and defending a more necessary skill when it comes to surviving the onslaught of an ogre’s club.
Apparently the third-person view has also been honed so it’s more usable for those who don’t like viewing the world directly through a pair of eyes first-person style. Combat is playable in third person, and indeed somewhat more action oriented by all accounts (with slow-motion kill moves looking good, for example).
The animation looks far slicker in third-person too, according to first-hand reports, so it seems Skyrim will be a game you can enjoy from behind, unlike Oblivion.
Not long to wait now – November 11th is the date when the game will be unleashed on the Xbox, PC and PS3. So slay we all…
