More news has been floating about the interweb concerning a possible third X-Files movie that many fans want to believe in.

Last month, speculation sprung up surrounding creator Chris Carter’s comments about the potential plot. Apparently, we were told, it would involve Mayan mythology and 2012 end of the world stuff, which is certainly perfect X-Files fodder.

Gillian Anderson – Scully as she’s better known – has been talking again about the prospect of playing Dana once more. It’s one she’s ready for, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Although she hasn’t got much of a clue whether the third flick will happen or not. HR reported that she told an Australian breakfast TV show: “I don’t know who’s writing it but I hear there’s something going on.”

Which sounds vaguely promising, but more vague than promising, in all honesty.

The interesting bit is that she added she’d really like to do a spoof or comedy version of the X-Files to follow up on the film.

She added: “I’ve always wanted to do a spoof of the X-Files as a film. We talked about that for a long time but maybe after three features we could get to do a spoof feature.”

Sometimes the X-Files trod close to humour anyway, so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch. Whether it would work or not, we guess, would depend on exactly how far they were going to take the comedy.

Still, with all the buzz surrounding Chris Carter’s UFO-centric baby, there could certainly be life in the old extra-terrestrial yet.

But if they want to feature the 2012 stuff in the third movie, Fox best get a serious move on with beginning production.
