The original Thor movie was directed by Kenneth Branagh.
And while it’s certain that the man himself won’t be returning to direct for the sequel, who will replace him seems to be unclear.
Previously, it was thought that the power behind the Game of Thrones, Brian Kirk (also of Dexter fame), would be filling the vacant director’s chair.
But apparently that isn’t set in stone yet. That’s according to actor Tom Hiddleston, who is returning to play Loki, the trickster god, in the second flick.
In an interview with MTV.com, he was asked whether he’d had time to speak to the new director – Brian Kirk – about the sequel.
He replied that it wasn’t actually confirmed that Kirk was indeed on board.
Hiddleston said: “I haven’t. I also don’t know that that’s actually confirmed. That’s not me being coy. I spoke to Kevin Feige last week on [the Avengers] set and he said, ‘Oh no, we haven’t got anyone yet. We’re thinking about people.’”
Apparently Kirk’s name is definitely “in the hat”, and probably a likely prospect, but we’ll have to wait a little bit longer to be sure.
Thor grossed nearly half a billion worldwide, and the sequel is expected to be out in cinemas in two years time.
Kenneth Branagh is likely to return in some capacity as a producer.
