A new video has been released displaying gameplay footage of the forthcoming Star Wars MMOG The Old Republic.

Developer Bioware released the ten minute video, despite still not having confirmed a launch date for the highly anticipated video game.

Dallas Dickinson, the director of the game’s production provides voiceover commentary to the gameplay that is shown.

Viewers are talked through one of the game’s many missions, which involves raiding a recently discovered prison.

The prison in question was found buried under the ice of Belsavis, which is believed to be the hiding place of an evil force that has the potential to threaten the galaxy.

Bioware has given a brief description, stating that: “To counter this threat, General Threnoldt dispatches Imperial forces to investigate the prison and confront the dangers within.

“Watch as a group of players work their way towards the prison gates in the opening section of the Eternity Vault, one of the high-level operations in Star Wars: The Old Republic.”

As mentioned above, an official release date has not yet been set in the US, UK or anywhere else for that matter.

However, speculation is that the game will be out before the end of the year, and it is expected that fan reaction to the beta will be a deciding factor.

Star Wars Galaxies is set to close down in December, which again points to the end of 2011 as a target for the new Star Wars MMOG to launch. Rumour has it that LucasArts didn’t want two separate Star Wars massively multiplayer games running simultaneously.
