The sequel to the atmospheric Metro 2033 was announced by THQ a couple of months back.
Once again set in the post-apocalyptic ruins of Moscow and its underground, little was revealed about Metro: Last Light, save for the fact that it would be more polished, with added depth to the gameplay and a multiplayer component.
THQ also promised it would be marketed properly, a failing of the original game, and indeed the publisher has been pumping out videos of the game in its pre-alpha form to build some excitement.
The latest video to emerge is actually a full twelve minute playthrough using the early code, which given that it’s supposedly pre-alpha looks pretty polished to us. Have a watch of the footage on YouTube yourself, and make your own mind up.
If anything, the sequel captures an even spookier vibe than the original, with the dark being your friend. As the demo footage shows, the main character needs to unscrew and/or shoot out light bulbs aplenty to stay stealthy.
Weaponry keeps the low-tech mechanical vibe from the first game, with a very funky mini-gun being shown off a third of the way through the clip.
The plot line involves infiltrating behind enemy lines to free an important prisoner who holds the key to bringing peace to the Metro.
Looks like it’s all shaping up very nicely to us. Metro: Last Light is expected to be released as some point next year on PS3, Xbox and PC.
