Rise of the Planet of the Apes has remained the highest grossing film at the US box office this week, a second week at number one for the ape reboot.
The film, which began showing in the UK this weekend, features some impressive CGI work and the talents of Andy Serkis amongst others.
It has been pretty well received by critics on the whole, and certainly by audiences, who have voted with their feet and gone to see the movie which explores the origin of the famous sentient apes.
According to figures quoted on Metro.co.uk, Rise managed to rack up almost $28 million this past week, which might have been down 50% since its debut week, but was enough to ensure it stayed top.
The Help, a comedy-drama starring Emma Stone (of Zombieland fame), was just held off by the simians, making $26 million which saw it reach second place in the chart of the most popular movies.
Final Destination 5, the horror series which tracks the impending doom of a bunch of youngsters, was also out last week, claiming the number three spot. It managed receipts of just over $18 million, but that’s less than previous instalments in the gory franchise have scooped
Rise of the Planet of the Apes might not stay on top next week, however, as it has a couple of big name reboot challengers – Fright Night (with David Tennant, no less) and Conan the Barbarian.
