It might not be an adventure game you’ve heard of, but The Book of Unwritten Tales has apparently been pretty popular in its home country.

German developer King Art Games has seen some success and critical acclaim with the adventure, and now publisher Lace Mamba Global is bringing the game across to the UK (and a number of other territories including Ireland) at some point this autumn.

Jason Codd, Managing Director of Lace Mamba Global, commented: “In Germany, The Book of Unwritten Tales is one of the best rated and bestselling adventure games in years.”

“We’re very much looking forward to releasing this great game in our territories and bringing it to the adventure gaming fans that have been waiting for an English release for so very long.”

The adventure is an old school point and click affair, and a humorous one with many jokes drawn from fantasy and RPG books, movies and games.

Four characters are playable: a gnome called Wilbur, Ivo the elf princess, Nate the human adventurer and his shaggy pet, the Critter. Working together, they can overcome obstacles with teamwork, or that’s the theory.

The practice probably involves the princess getting ticked off with the Critter and calling it a walking carpet.

While it’s true that The Book of Unwritten Tales has received good reviews in Germany, there are only three reviews listed on Metacritic, and we’d take that with a pinch of salt.

Still, Gamestar said of the game: “This adventure tells a fantastic story with exceptional characters, lots of humour and allusions to well-known fantasy stereotypes and logical puzzles. The 3D landscapes are beautiful.”

We shall see – hopefully a demo will be released first so you can try it out for yourself.
