Ragnarok Violet is now a hit on the iOS platform just after the game’s launch, according to developer Gravity Interactive.
The anime-style action role-player has inserted itself in the top five free RPGs in the iOS chart, and is featured in the “new and noteworthy” section of the App Store.
So what is Ragnarok Violet? Basically it’s the free iOS version of Ragnarok Online, which has some 3 million players in the US and around 50 million worldwide.
The iOS version is essentially a more streamlined variant of the main online game, with faster paced gameplay designed to be suitable for mobile gaming.
The devs promise Violet will feel familiar to existing players yet “new and all fun”, with the same advanced pet system as the full online game, along with costumes, item enchantment cards and so forth.
New facets include improved weapon swapping and item creation systems which should help you in your quest to prevent the Dark Lord from reawakening (a swift cleaving blow to his alarm clock should do the trick).
One of the key mechanics is the pet system, which lets player characters use a special taming item to make almost any in-game monster their slave. Each pet monster has unique stats and a special power, and they’re individual characters who have “cute emotional outbursts” (read: they’re really annoying).
It would seem the mobile iOS version has been well received by fans, as the game is currently rated pretty highly on the App Store. The graphics look fairly basic, but hey, as they say it’s all about the gameplay.
If you fancy a dabble – it’s free after all – then head on over to iTunes for the download.
