Quakecon has just happened, and along with all the shooter action, the fifth incarnation of the Elder Scrolls, Skyrim, was shown off to a somewhat over-enthusiastic audience.

The demo, given by Todd Howard, was conducted on the Xbox not PC, so gave us an idea of the sort of graphics you can expect on console platforms.

And it looks pretty good – take a peep on YouTube, where someone recorded it, despite Bethesda’s insistence that no footage be taken. Obviously the quality of the recording isn’t great, but you can get the flavour (hopefully the video won’t be taken down by the time you read this).

There are some smart touches of detail in the landscape, and the environment with effects such as mist rolling gently in.

Combat looks suitably brutal, and the interface nicely honed. While demonstrating the latter, Howard examined a note from the Dark Brotherhood – the assassin’s guild – revealing that they will return for Skyrim.

Details of the Collector’s Edition of the RPG were also revealed, and what extras will come within what will be an “extremely limited” run of boxed copies, apparently.

As well as the game disc, you’ll get an official 200 page art book, a making of the game DVD documentary, and a 12 inch Alduin the world eater statue.

We’re sure the statue is going to look pretty cool, but we’re not convinced of the value for money when it comes to the limited edition’s £130 price tag. Still, there are bound to be plenty of folks who just want to own a piece of gaming history.

Skyrim comes out on November 11th. Not long to wait now.
