A series of extraordinary events mark the beginning of summer: tremors shake the Hyddenworld and a mysterious gem is uncovered near Brum. The same night, the Emperor of the Hyddenworld wakes from decades of sleep.

Jack was born in the Hyddenworld and so has a foot in each world, his daughter Judith does too, despite having a human mother. Judith’s destiny is to be the bearer of the gems and helper of humankind – the Shield Maiden – but somehow it all seems to much for her to accept.

Brum is firmly in the path of the Empire and Jack knows that he must travel back to the Hyddenworld in order to reunite the four gems and he must ensure that the Shield Maiden is ready to wield the gems.

Judith must embark on her own great journey soon, if the gems can’t be found and she isn’t ready, then both the hydden and the human world will be threatened with extinction.

Reviews for Awakening:

“This book’s narrative is a thing of rare beauty which allows the author’s obvious love for his work to transmit over to and into the reader. The reading experience is once again an uplifting one despite the darkness that lies within many of the book’s themes.”

“This book isn’t just good, it’s magical!”

William Horwood is the author of the bestselling classic Duncton Wood and Wolves of Time series. William has returned to his hallmark fantasy in this epic series following the flow of the seasons. Spring is the first of four books. William lives and works in Oxford.
