Sony Pictures has announced that The Amazing Spider-Man is to be shown in IMAX 3D cinemas when it’s released next July.
So you’ve got a few options when you come to watch the flick, next year – straightforward 2D (where you can play spot the 3D bits when things fly at the screen), 3D, or massive-screen 3D at the IMAX.
Apparently the film has specifically been shot with 3D in mind for some high-rise web-swinging scenes, so it should look pretty darn impressive at the IMAX. We’re certainly tempted…
Rory Bruer, President Worldwide Distribution, Sony Pictures Entertainment, enthused: “We couldn’t be more excited to be able to offer this extraordinary new Spider-Man adventure in IMAX.”
“Marc Webb and the entire production team have been working tirelessly to deliver a 3D motion picture that will take the Spider-Man experience to a whole new level. Audiences will literally feel like they are swinging through the streets of New York and that will only be accentuated when seen in IMAX.”
Previous Spider-Man flicks have also been released for IMAX, and have generated $2.5 billion in box office receipts worldwide (for all cinemas, not just IMAX).
The film stars Andrew Garfield as Spidey, Irrfan Khan as Proto-Goblin, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Denis Leary as George Stacy. It takes the Spider-Man story back to high school, where Peter Parker first develops his powers.
