It’s that time of year when a mass of sweaty deathmatchers gather together for a bring-your-own-computer frag-fest in Texas.
Yes, QuakeCon 2011 is on at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas starting two weeks today, and the official panel and presentation schedule, along with other details, have been revealed.
John Carmack will deliver the opening keynote, as ever, on the Thursday, and then the Friday sees a game presentation all eyes will be on. Yes, Todd Howard will be showing off Skyrim.
The latest effort in the Elder Scrolls series is due out in just over three months. Skyrim features an all-new graphics engine, better fleshed out NPC interactions and questing mechanics, and of course dragons. Big, fire-breathing, scary dragons.
A “20 Years of id Software” panel will also be held, and the next day a presentation on another big gaming title, Prey 2.
Due out next year, the sequel to Prey is set in an open-ended alien world which will have you leaping and flying about dramatically while putting paid to your enemies with a gorgeous assortment of high-tech weapons. The E3 trailer looked pretty cool.
Rage, the next shooter from id Software itself due out in October, will be playable by attendees on the show floor in all its post-apocalyptic glory. As well as FPS action, Rage features RPG elements and racing around in buggies with mounted machine-guns.
Sounds like it will be fun for those present. Of course, there will be tournaments as well with pro gamers queueing up to prove who’s the best. Quake Live duel and team deathmatch events are planned, along with a new addition, an amateur Brink tourney with five players per team.
Last year’s Quake Live Masters Champion was Alexey “Cypher” Yanushevsky, who scooped $14,000 in prize money.
