Activision is going to be showing off Prototype 2 at Comic-Con in San Diego, which kicks off today, and to coincide with that, a new trailer has been released on the game’s website.
The company has also confirmed the release date for the sequel, which is slated to appear in April 2012 (the 24th to be precise, although mentioning the exact day seems optimistic at this stage).
If you missed the original Prototype when it was released two years ago, it was an open-world action game starring a shape shifting superhero, which was well received due to its smart combat system and compelling storyline.
Expect more of the same sort of action, naturally enough, although this time round we have a new infected protagonist. Sergeant James Heller must fight through the post-viral wastelands of “New York Zero” in search of a familiar face…
Yes, the interesting twist is that the ultimate goal for Heller is to kill none other than Alex Mercer – the star of the original game, who killed Heller’s family and left him very hungry for revenge.
Expect lots of very bloody combat and huge lumbering monstrosities which need to be taken out with the usual extreme prejudice. Superhero moves aplenty can be pulled off, such as picking up tanks by the gun barrel and whacking things on the head with them. Which has got to hurt.
Ken Rosman, Studio Head at developer Radical Entertainment, commented: “We’re thrilled to be at the point where we can show the game directly to our fans.”
“It’s always rewarding to see those first time reactions to what we’ve been working on for the past couple years, and we can’t wait for them to see some of Sgt. James Heller’s amazing new shape-shifting abilities at San Diego Comic-Con.”
Prototype 2 will be coming out on PS3, PC and Xbox formats next April.
