Good news for Evil Dead fans, it seems that the fourth “dead” movie might be very much alive and kicking.

Evil Dead made its controversial entrance in the early eighties, with a film that managed to be rather strange and camp, yet genuinely chilling and something you really didn’t want to watch alone, late at night.

Dead 2 did much the same thing with better special effects and even more cheesier lines (the famous hand “who’s laughing now” scene and following bits spring to mind). Army of Darkness, the third flick, got even weirder and took a time trip back to medieval England, but was still thoroughly watchable.

Rumours about Evil Dead 4 have persisted since 2007, in fact, but never seem to have come to much.

However, Bruce Campbell himself just tweeted yesterday in reply to a fan who said: “I won’t believe in a new Evil Dead film until I see it. Or at least not until @GroovyBruce tells me to believe in it.”

Lo and behold, GroovyBruce got back to him saying: “Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell.”

So there you have it. Other sources around the net have also been buzzing with talk of Sam Raimi having been working on the script, or at least having made a start.

Of course, he’s going to be tied up with Oz, The Great and Powerful for the forseeable. Still, the Evil Dead 4 – likely to be called something else, of course – may stroll into town a couple of years down the line. Complete with chainsaw…
