You’ve doubtless seen the Volkswagen advert where the kid dressed up in a Darth Vader suit is running around the house trying to force-push various objects.

He then approaches the family’s VW car on the drive, motions his hands towards it, and dad starts up the car using the remote starter switch on the key fob (if you missed the ad, then take a look here).

It’s quite an amusing piece of advertising, but some weren’t so amused with VW’s company policies at Greenpeace. The green warriors have now made a spoof video to illustrate why.

Greenpeace believes that as the largest car manufacturer in Europe, VW has the power to have more effect on CO2 emissions than anyone else, yet has done less than other manufacturers to reduce emissions over the latter part of the last decade.

Hence the spoof advert which you can see on YouTube. It features a whole range of kids dressed as good guys coming to stop the child Vader, who has a secret weapon – a VW branded Death Star in the skies.

Not that Greenpeace is trying to suggest that Volkswagen is about to destroy the Earth, or anything…

The advert ends noting that “VW is threatening our planet by opposing cuts to CO2 emissions”, and then urges folks to “join the rebellion”.

Mind you, the YouTube comments on the footage might not be quite what Greenpeace wanted, with many saying the ad has really made them want to go out and purchase a shiny new Volkswagen.

Maybe the Volkswagen DS could be an upcoming car model…

Earlier in the week, Greenpeace protesters dressed as Star Wars stormtroopers marched on Silicon Roundabout in London, handing out leaflets and displaying banners.
