Sony Online Entertainment has been cutting the price of its massively multiplayer game offerings.
Now the price of a monthly subscription to EverQuest, EQ2, Planetside, Vanguard and DC Universe Online is $15 a month.
Previously, some of these games were already set at this price level, but some were apparently $20, we’re not sure which. And we’re quite amazed that folks were stumping up $20 per month to play, too… so the price cut certainly makes sense to us.
The bigger move, however, has been the reduction of the asking price of the SOE All Access Pass. This gives you access to all the above games, and full access to other free-to-play titles as well such as Pirates of the Burning Sea.
Whereas before this package cost a hefty $30 per month, it’s now a more reasonable $20. At only $5 more than a single game subscription, it now looks pretty good value for those with enough time on their hands to play multiple MMOGs.
And if you sign up for longer than a month, further reductions are available. Those who sign up for a full year with the SOE Pass pay $15 per month, and single games cost $10 per month when you commit yourself to a full year.
SOE has, of course, recently suffered at the hands of hackers who stripped user details out of its database. Perhaps the price cutting is part and parcel of measures designed to bring potential but now wary new players into the fold.
