We all know the story of The Hobbit, of course. And we all know the story of the film of The Hobbit, which is nearly as lengthy in itself.
The movie was, at one time, supposed to be out about now, but a string of delays, and dramas such as a change of Director – Guillermo Del Toro quit to be replaced by Peter Jackson – have added up to mean that it’ll now be out at the end of next year.
So obviously there’s still a long way to go, but some excitement has been stirred by Entertainment Weekly, which has managed to get hold of three stills from the production.
Which means it is actually, definitely and certainly on the way, in the pipeline, and generally moving forward (cue Peter Jackson quitting next week).
Feast your peepers on the shots here, the first of which shows Martin Freeman as Bilbo, with some impressive ears and a curly mop hairstyle.
The next one features Gandalf (Ian McKellen) having a bit of a pensive smoke, and then there’s another scene with Freeman in his hobbit house where you can make out some pretty big size fifteens, by the looks of it.
Overall, reaction to the shots by Tolkien/Rings film fans seems to be reasonably positive, with many thinking Freeman definitely looks the part.
Exactly how well the film will be received may depend on exactly how Jackson tweaks the ending, as it has previously been alleged he will. Although we won’t see that for quite some time yet, as the film’s split into two, and it’s only the first part which is in cinemas come December 2012.
