It’s finally happened. Against all odds, 2K Games has announced that Duke Nukem Forever has gone gold and despite what all the nay-sayers reckoned, the shooter will be on sale before the next appearance of Halley’s comet.
Duke Nukem Forever – aptly named given that it took forever to make, a decade and a half to be precise – will actually be on shop shelves come June 10th, available on Xbox, PS3 and PC.
George Broussard, Creative Director at 3D Realms, commented: “Duke Nukem Forever and its journey to store shelves is legendary. It’s an epic tale of four game development studios that banded together and did the unthinkable and shipped the unshippable.”
The four developers in question being 3D Realms, Triptych, Piranha and Gearbox.
Broussard promises that the game will boast all the attitude, character and political incorrectness that the Duke brought to our monitor screens in his first shooter outing back in 1996, with immortal catchphrases such as “come get some” and “shake it baby”.
And who could forget: “It’s time to kick ass and chew bubblegum… and I’m all outta gum.”
Oh, and you won’t have to wait until June 10th to experience the new Duke, as a demo is coming out on all formats a week previous to that. Mark a week on Friday on your calendar… “Bitchin’”, as a certain macho hero might say.
Apparently the game starts with the big man taking a leak in the gents, which just about sets the tone for the rest of DNF we’d imagine. Plenty of toilet humour.
Whether they’ll be any major FPS gameplay innovations, well, we doubt that, but from the looks of the previews we’ve glanced at, the game is certainly polished and definitely keeps that all-important sense of (even cruder) humour.
We can’t wait, if only to see what fifteen years has achieved…
