Some details have been spilled on the hotly anticipated fifth Elder Scrolls adventure, Skyrim.
These were spotted on the official Bethesda forum by PlayStation University, and are taken from a German PC magazine by the name of PC Games.
We know that dragons are going to be in Skyrim, but not all of them will be out to flame-roast your good self – some will be friendly.
There will be five major cities in the game and eight or nine settlements outside of these, and the map of the realm will be in 3D, similar to Google Maps in fact (we wonder if the local inn landlords will be complaining about Google’s Street View carts, and their mission to paint the entire realm, as well).
The downside is you won’t be able to make notes on these maps, but they sound pretty tasty, so we’ll definitely let that slide.
It was also revealed that player housing is in, so you’ll be able to buy yourself a little pad, and lock-picking will be a mini-game when it comes to breaking into other folks’ little pads.
Some interesting points are made on the realism front, too. Children will be wandering the streets and fields of Skyrim, and actions in the world will have an authentic impact on merchants.
So if there’s a cornfield in the city which is burned in a fire, the local traders will quickly run out of corn, and what corn they can get hold of will be priced sky high.
If Bethesda can successfully weave that sort of level of realism into the economy, we’ll be very happy bunnies.
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is due out in November, or to give it the precise date, 11/11/11. The RPG will be on Xbox, PS3 and PC.
