If you were a member of Aussiecon 4, last year’s Worldcon, or if you are a member of Renovation, this year’s Worldcon, you may submit nominations for the Hugo Awards and the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer. In fact, even if you are not yet a member of Renovation you will still be eligible to submit nominations for this years awards if you become a member by 31 January 2011.
The nominations period for the awards runs from 1 January 2011 to 26 March 2011 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time. There is an online nomination ballot and instructions on how to nominate for the awards on Renovation’s official website. The website also has links to a printable ballot in PDF form, so that nominations can be submitted by mail. Each member may nominate up to five works or persons in each category. Works published in 2010 for the first time anywhere or for the first time in English are eligible for nomination.
Categories open for nomination include Best Novel; Best Novella; Best Novelette; Best Short Story; Best Related Work; Best Graphic Story; Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form; Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form; Best Editor, Short Form; Best Editor, Long Form; Best Professional Artist; Best Semiprozine; Best Fanzine; Best Fan Writer; Best Fan Artist; and for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer, which is not a Hugo Award.
Criteria for nomination in each category, for example, word length for the writing categories, can be found on Renovation’s website.
This year’s Hugo Awards will be handed out to the winners at Renovation, the 69th World Science Fiction convention, to be held 17 August through 21 August 2011, in Reno, Nevada. Memberships may be purchased at Renovation’s website.
