Publisher Simon and Schuster has announced its November releases, including two blockbuster collections from names familiar to readers of science fiction, fantasy and horror.
Coming in November Full Dark, No Stars from Stephen King. In the tradition of his early collections Different Seasons and Four Past Midnight, Full Dark, No Stars includes four stories from King, including “1922”, in which a man confesses to the murder of his wife after she decides to sell their land and “Big Driver”, the story of an author of cozy mysteries who decides to take a shortcut on the way home from a speaking engagement, a decision that changes her life.
The other two stories are “Fair Extension”, the tale of a cancer-stricken man who makes a deal with the Devil, and “A Good Marriage”, in which a woman searching her garage for some batteries instead finds evidence that she doesn’t really know her husband as well as she thinks and that her marriage actually might not be all that good.
Full Dark, No Stars will be available in the US hardback, unabridged CD, eBook and unabridged eAudio.
Also coming this month from Simon and Schuster is Songs of Love and Death, an anthology edited by multi-Hugo award winning editor, writer and anthologist Gardner Dozois and George R. R. Martin, best known for his A Song of Fire and Ice series. It is a collection of stories of love not meant to be from 17 authors of science fiction, fantasy and romance from writers including Peter S. Beagle, Neil Gaiman, Robin Hobb, and Cecelia Holland. There is a story in the collection by Jim Butcher featuring his reader favorite, Harry Dresden, and another from Diana Gabaldon involving a World War II veteran transported to her Outlander universe.
Songs of Love and Death will be available in the US in hardcover and eBook.
Simon and Schuster is also preparing to release Pathfinder, the first book in a new series for young readers by Orson Scott Card. Card’s new book features the story of a teen who, after his father’s death, discovers that his father had many secrets, that he himself can see into the past and can in fact manipulate it. His discoveries set him on a journey that sees him celebrated by some and put in mortal danger by others. He must learn who to trust, or he may not live to see his own future.
Pathfinder will be available in the US in hardcover and eBook.
Along with these books, the publisher will release two Star Trek books. Star Trek: USS Enterprise: Haynes Manual, by Ben Robinson and Marcus Riley, presents the history and technical information on each incarnation of the starship Enterprise. The hardback edition contains new artwork and is authorized by CBS. The other Star Trek volume is the novel Star Trek: Typhon Pact: Seize the Fire, by Michael A. Martin, and features characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager, and will be available in mass market paperback and as an eBook.
