If you’ve not picked up Trine yet, then you should consider grabbing it on Steam now, while it’s on 75% off.
That means the game is £4.25, a temptingly low price point for a title which had us addicted for quite some time.
The basic idea of Trine is that three characters, a fighter, mage and archer must make their way through a number of puzzle and platform style levels, negotiating chasms and traps as well as fighting beasts.
As a single player game, you switch instantly between characters to solve puzzles – for example, the mage can summon boxes and stack them so you can access high ledges. The fighter has a shield, so when rocks drop from above, you can switch to him and hide underneath it.
However, Trine can be played multiplayer, and that’s when it’s especially enjoyable, as you all work together as a team (even locally on the same PC – providing you can hook up several joypads, or indeed keyboards and mice).
It’s certainly something to help pass those long winter evenings as we wait for Trine 2 to come out. The sequel is set to emerge at some point next year.
