The winners of the Geffen Awards, given by the Israeli Society for Science Fiction and Fantasy, have been named. The Awards were presented at ICon, the Israeli Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention, held each year in Tel Aviv over the Sukkot holiday, this year at the end of September.
This year, the winner as Best Translated Science Fiction Book was Isaac Asimov’s Collected Short Stories, Vol. 1 (Moby Dick), by Isaac Asimov, while the Best Translated Fantasy Book was Nation (Kidmat Eden), by Terry Pratchett.
“Doctor Watson and Mr. Holmes – Or the Affair of the Fannington House Cures” (Once Upon a Time in the Future), by Vered Tochterman, was named Best Israeli Short Story, while To Be (Chong Levi’s Fifth) (Zmora Bitan), by Yoav Avni, was given the award as Best Israeli Novel. The award for Israeli novel is only given every other year.
The Geffen Awards are named after Amos Geffen, who was one of the first editors of science fiction and fantasy in Israel.
