Aion has just become a bigger massively multiplayer world with the release of an expansion entitled Assault on Balaurea.
The good news is the expansion is free to play, and introduces the next chapter of the game, where characters must band together to launch a counter-assault on the invading Balaur. The fearsome Balaur include the likes of the dragon lord Tiamat, and the Asmodians (someone’s swallowed a Monster Manual or two).
So what’s new here? The usual new zones and instances (there are eight fresh instances in total, from low to high levels), along with updates to existing content, and more loot to plunder.
Functional pets have now been introduced, and faithful companions can now act as watchdogs, pack mules, or indeed assist in crafting tasks.
Finally, the level cap has been upped to 55, and enhanced flight mechanics have been introduced in the form of windstreams, which allow for much increased flying speeds and unlimited flight time. The same effect can be achieved by eating 500 tins of baked bins and having a lighter handy afterwards.
Jaeho Lee, CEO of NCsoft West, commented: “With this expansion, we continue to make Aion a truly global franchise by offering customised features catering to Western audience gameplay styles, something we’ve been looking forward to bringing our players since launch.”
Aion will be one year old in a few weeks time.
