The Chesley Awards, meant to recognize excellence in art related to science fiction and fantasy, were awarded the weekend of 5 – 8 August 2010 at ReConStruction, held at Raleigh, North Carolina.

The award for Best Cover Illustration – Hardback Book went to Matt Stewart, for his cover for The Valley of Shadows (Tor), by Brian Cullen. The Best Cover Illustration – Paperback Book was awarded to Scott Altmann for his work on The Mysterious Mr. Spines: Flight (Grosset & Dunlap), by Jason Lethcoe. Meanwhile, the Best Cover Illustration – Magazine prize was awarded to John Picacio for his work on the September 2009 issue of Asimov’s Science Fiction.

The Award for Best Interior Illustration went to Gary Lippincott, for “Come to the Fairies’ Ball” from Come to the Fairies’ Ball (Wordsong), by Jane Yolen.

Awards were also given for Best Gaming-Related Illustration, Best Color Work – Unpublished and Best Monochrome Work – Unpublished, Best Three-Dimensional Art, Best Product Illustration, Best Art Director. In addition, an award was presented for Contribution to the ASFA and there was an Award for Artistic Achievement.

The Chesley Awards were established as the ASFA Awards in 1985, but were renamed in honor of astronomical artist Chesley Bonestell after his death in 1986.
