Comic-Con 2010 has just been on over the weekend in San Diego, and one of the most interesting pieces of film news we’ve spotted concerns an indie film production which was aired at the convention.

Hitfix had the scoop on Skyline, a film starring Eric Balfour (who was in the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and Donald Faison (of Scrubs fame).

It involves an alien invasion scenario, with ships and strange blue lights descending on the city of Los Angeles, abducting people and generally making a bit of a nuisance of themselves. The aliens in question, by the way, are massive building-sized organic crystalline things.

And yes, this is an independent film with a small budget which is managing some pretty impressive special effects, by the sounds of things.

Partly because it’s actually being made by the Brothers Strause (Greg and Colin), who directed Alien vs Predator: Requiem (but we won’t hold that against them), and are famous for their special effects work.

Skyline is due to be released later this year, and we must say our interest is very much piqued. Hopefully the trailer the folks saw at Comic-Con will be online soon – we’ll let you know as soon as we spot it.

Judging from the reaction the clip got, it all sounds very promising. The extra-terrestrials in particular sound spectacular – never mind Alien vs Predator, these things will just sit on the pair and squash ‘em flat.
