EA has announced that it will mark the run up to the launch of space sci-fi epic Dead Space 2 by releasing a downloadable prequel.
Dead Space Ignition will be available to download in the autumn on Xbox Live and PSN, ahead of Dead Space 2′s launch in January 2011.
Ignition is described as a “Choose Your Own Adventure” game, with a comic style story written by Antony Johnston (best-selling author of graphic novels including the likes of Daredevil).
It tells the story of the hours before the start of Dead Space 2, featuring the initial Necromorph outbreak (they’re the nasty alien beasts). As well as making your own branching decisions (with four different endings), the player will be faced with three hacking mini-games.
Hardware Crack, Trace Route and System Override will offer what EA describes as a “fun and satisfying arcade experience”, challenging the player’s puzzle and twitch skills.
“Dead Space Ignition is the first of many exciting game extensions we have planned for the launch of Dead Space 2,” said Steve Papoutsis, Executive Producer on the Dead Space franchise.
“The interactive comic-style game will give Dead Space fans a unique perspective on the events leading up to Dead Space 2, and will also introduce the storyline to a brand new audience of gamers.”
Completing Dead Space Ignition will reward the intrepid player, with each separate ending discovered gaining a new unlockable. Look out for the game this autumn.
And remember; in space, nothing can hear you die.
