Mad Max is a post-apocalyptic action film classic, and the original Director George Miller has been planning a fourth instalment for some time now.
In fact, it was due to begin shooting in 2003, although the political situation and outbreak of the second Gulf War put paid to those plans.
At any rate, it seems that not only is Mad Max: Fury Road going to be made, but a second film will be shot in back-to-back fashion.
According to Twitch, this will be called Mad Max: Furiosa. You wait twenty-five years for a film, and then two come along at once.
Don’t expect Mel to be back in his distinctive leathers, however, as he’s getting on a bit now (and there are his “personal issues” to consider as well).
Instead, Tom Hardy (of Star Trek Nemesis and Bronson fame) will be taking up the role as Max Rockatansky. Charlize Theron has also been signed up for Fury Road.
The expected release date for Mad Max: Fury Road is 2012, with the second film coming out fairly soon after. That should be enough Max madness for even the biggest fan of the franchise.
