Paranormal Activity was a big hit – it was made on a shoestring budget, and grossed over $100 million in the US alone.
So the sequel was inevitable, and keenly anticipated by the many who thought the original film was one of the scariest they’d ever seen. Radio 1′s film critic James King said he had problems sleeping after he watched it.
We were late to the Paranormal Activity party, and didn’t know quite what to expect when we rented the DVD. While it is quite chilling in places, ultimately it came across as pushing the bounds of believability a little too much for our liking. It was a good film, don’t get us wrong, but Blair Witch did it better.
Anyhow, the trailer for the second movie has been put up on the Paranormal Activity website, giving us a taste of what the sequel will have to offer. And more importantly, where it’s going, as we’re pretty sure the first flick was written without a follow-up in mind.
So, we’ve got more cameras – it’s a bit like the Big Brother house, with them in every room – and new characters. These include a baby, and a dog (always good for barking at spooks).
And of course, the girl from the first film (we think that’s who it is, anyway) is back and presumably completely possessed and nutso.
Paranormal Activity 2 is slated for release in October, so James King can prepare for some more sleepless nights come Halloween.
