Captain James Tiberius Kirk fans, set your phasers to stun and lock in transport co-ordinates. And T.J. Hooker fans, load your guns and, erm, do something else a bit policeman-like. Tell someone the time, maybe. Not to mention Third Rock from the Sun fans, and TekWar addicts (there must be some of the latter out there somewhere).
Anyway, those of you interested in all things Shatner might want to know that he’s planning to direct a documentary about one of his favourite subjects – himself.
According to TrekMovie.com, the feature length documentary has been given the working title “The Captains”.
It will essentially be a biography, starting with the earlier stages of his career in Canada, and moving up to swinging that big role as Captain Kirk.
Perhaps the film will explore his unique acting style, which developed in terms of intensity around about the time middle age spread began to hit home and he started wearing the girdle.
Although that’s possibly one rumour Shatner might address here, given that he’s the director. William Shatner is no stranger to the director’s chair, having sat in it for Star Trek V – then the director came back from the coffee machine and told him to get out.
Not really – he did indeed direct The Final Frontier in 1989, and although profitable, it was widely regarded as a cinematic flop. One critic dubbed it “Star Trek V: Shatner’s Folly”.
