Ever fancied being a movie star? Well, you’ll soon be able to, of a fashion.

You won’t get your own on-set trailer, more cash than you can have a bath in, and umpteen members of the opposite sex following you around and laughing at your every joke no matter how bad it is.

But you will be able to appear on screen in a film, via the magic of either Xbox Kinect or Sony Move, the motion control systems for the respective consoles.

Yoostar 2 has just been unveiled at the E3 games show, with Leonard Nimoy on hand to help promote the game. It allows the average Joe to step into the shoes of various well known characters in sixty famous scenes from the movies (with hundreds more available as downloadable content, apparently).

It works much like the Hollywood “green screen” (or indeed blue screen) technology that allows a performer to be superimposed on top of a scene.

Once your film is recorded, you can then upload it and share it with the world via mediums such as Facebook. Either that, or you can delete it in embarrassment and pretend the whole thing never happened.

Yoostar intends to set up a community, whereby those participating by uploading their scenes and actively commenting on the efforts of others receive status increases, and presumably things like fancy titles.

“We have created something entirely new – a ‘social video game’ that bridges the worlds of social games and video games,” said Gregory Fischbach, President of the Yoostar Entertainment Group.

“The result is a game that’s incredibly fun to play with friends, lets you create and share your own video online, and provides a social game mechanic that motivates you to play and participate in the community. It’s like nothing the video game industry has seen before.”

The game scores a player’s performance, and the idea is to rise from a struggling actor to a star of the silver screen (or the green screen in this case).

A party mode will also be included, where a group of friends can perform in quick succession. Think of it as a fast-paced movie karaoke.

A release date for Yoostar 2 hasn’t yet been confirmed, so we can assume this is one for 2011.
