Word on the net has it that Mass Effect 3 may have a multiplayer mode, which should excite some fans of Bioware’s acclaimed sci-fi RPG series.
This rumour stems from a job opportunity posted up by Bioware for a lead multiplayer programmer.
The job description, being Montreal based, is posted in French, but from what we can glean via Google translate, the post is to “ensure the game engine and system works reliably and efficiently in a multiplayer environment”, and to “adapt the existing single player experience to multiplayer”.
Of course, it doesn’t mention which game engine or Mass Effect specifically, but this is what most folks have read it as meaning.
If multiplayer is in Mass Effect 3, it would seem likely that it would be in co-operative form, rather than any player versus player shenanigans.
Some fans of the series, however, are worried that any effort on the multiplayer front might detract from the time spent on the main single player campaign.
At any rate, it’ll be a while before we find out, seeing as the second Mass Effect only came out at the start of this year.
