Not played a decent shooter for a while? Fancy something a little different? Then Shattered Horizon might be worth a whirl.

You’ve got nothing to lose, at any rate, as this coming weekend the game will be free to play – and if you like it, and want to buy it for good, the price is halved (to 9.99 Euros).

Shattered Horizon is a zero-gravity shooter, where you float about in space, or in the tunnels of space stations, giving each other hell with a variety of weapons.

The game is set in a future where a massive explosion on the moon has littered the vacuum around Earth with billions of tons of rocky debris. Teams of players fight for supplies and survival in this hostile environment.

It’s online multiplayer only, and last month witnessed the release of a weapons pack, which added eight new toys to shoot people with, along with three types of grenade.

“Shattered Horizon continues to evolve as we add new features requested by the community”, commented Jaakko Haapasalo, head of Futuremark Games Studio.

The free Shattered Horizon weekend officially starts at 11pm on Thursday, and finishes at 8pm on Sunday.

However, if you’re really keen, you can pre-load the game off Steam from Wednesday evening – in other words, right now.

It isn’t the first time that Futuremark Games Studio has offered a free weekend like this, as they ran an identical deal back in February. Still, if you missed it then, now’s your chance to dust off those space boots and get stuck in.
