Team 17 has announced that it will be bringing its remake of Alien Breed to the PS3 and PC.
Originally released in the early nineties, Alien Breed was a top-down survival shooter, where you face hordes of vicious aliens on a spaceship (possibly inspired by a certain film).
The remade for the 21st Century version, Alien Breed: Evolution, came out in January on Xbox Live Arcade.
And Alien Breed: Impact is basically a heavily expanded edition of Evolution for the PS3 and PC, tweaked appropriately using feedback from the gaming community.
The game still features its core running and gunning action, staying true to the basic arcade style gameplay of the original, albeit with vastly improved graphics based on the Unreal 3 engine.
However, with Alien Breed: Impact, Team 17 has made the shooter tougher, and added more customisation options, with new weapon upgrades to purchase.
The co-operative gameplay, which sees two players kicking alien carapace side-by-side, has also been enhanced, although in exactly what manner the developer doesn’t specify. An improved prologue campaign is also promised.
Based on our experiences playing Evolution, we’re not sure these sound like massive changes, but it really depends on what they’ve done to the co-op mode, which did fall rather short on the X360.
Martyn Brown of Team 17 commented: “We’re always very keen to hear what our communities are saying about our titles and greatly consider feedback. For Alien Breed: Impact, it was great that we went back to the design and improved the game in many areas, meaning a much tighter gameplay experience for all.”
Alien Breed: Impact will be arriving on the PlayStation Network, and Steam for the PC, at some point this summer.
