20th Century Fox’s prequel to Planet of the Apes has been dated for release next year.
Variety reported that Rise of the Apes will be out in June 2011, only a year away, not leaving much breathing room for the film company.
The plot of the film takes the story back to before the Planet of the Apes, exploring the origins of the famous tale.
It’s set in modern day San Francisco, and involves scientist doing genetic experiments on apes, with predictable results. War between man and ape then ensues.
The makers are eschewing the costume and make-up route, and plumping for computer generated apes instead.
That’s cause for concern to some, probably, but Peter Jackson’s WETA digital are handling the effects, so you’d hope it’s all in good hands.
As for the story, well – it’s Planet of the Apes, isn’t it. You can’t go wrong, can you?
