The first expansion for Funcom’s MMORPG Age of Conan is readying itself for release on the 11th May.

Age of Conan: Rise of the Godslayer will come in the form of a digital download, or a boxed copy at retail which will be bundled along with the original game and a new social pet.

The expansion adds a new land in the form of the empire of Khitai, an oriental themed environment of mountains, jungles and plains.

A new faction system is being introduced, with many warring parties in Khitai who players can ally themselves with, gaining rewards for completing missions.

Two mounts are being added, the tiger and the wolf, along with an alternate advancement system, featuring a range of new powers and abilities.

Although presumably these special powers won’t stretch to becoming Governor of California.

And naturally, all the expected new loot and quest content that an expansion brings with it will be on tap, as well.

Morten Larssen, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Funcom, commented: “It is very exciting to be re-engaging with retail together with our great distribution partners with an updated product that contains both the expansion and the original game, making this release relevant to both new players, previous players and our current player base.”

You can pre-order the expansion now if you’re an existing customer, to gain the reward of a new in-game pet.

A digital Collector’s Edition of Godslayer will also be available as an optional upgrade, and that will give immediate access to a flying fighting pet, amongst other goodies.
