What is it about aliens? They’re almost always psychotic extra-terrestrials hell-bent on blowing up the human race, or enslaving us.
Save for a few notable exceptions where they come down and give us a close encounter with a bontempi organ. Which, all things considered, is probably crueller than the slavery option.
The latest game from indie developer Fun Infused Games is no exception to the usual alien invasion scenario.
Although Abduction Action lets you play it from a different angle – that of a UFO pilot “in training”.
Possibly on their spaceship driving test? “Now, Mr Smith, when I tap my clipboard on the dash, I want you to bank sharply to the left, hover over that skyscraper and fire the twin dark matter cannons.”
Anyhow, your goal in Abduction Action is to use the ship’s tractor beam to abduct Earthlings and cows (yes, cows), and defeat foes such as army missile launchers and police helicopters.
“It will take all your skills, wits, and intellect to prove your alien worth,” so the developer claims. Although we suspect that the ability to stab joypad buttons quite quickly might suffice.
The game, which is now out on Xbox Live Indie Games, has a five level campaign and a score attack mode.
The graphics look quite cartoony and basic, but hey, the game doesn’t set you back much at 80 Microsoft Points (a bit less than one of your Earth pounds).
