The long awaited new series of Primeval has begun filming in Ireland; the filming is expected to continue until November when all of the main scenes for series four and five have been completed.
Initially the series had been cancelled by ITV, but in a remarkable U turn and with the backing of UKTV, the series was brought back for a further two series of thirteen episodes in total.
The cast is made up of Hannah Spearritt (Abby Maitland), Andrew-Lee Potts (Connor Temple), Ben Miller (James Lester) and Ben Mansfield (Captain Becker), they will be joined by two new members played by the Irish actors Ciarán McMenamin (Matt) and Ruth Kearney (Jess).
The first episode will start a few after the last series ended where some of the team were stranded in the past.
