Could the next Oscar ceremony be the one where science fiction rules? Maybe not rule exactly but this time Star Trek is looking good for a nomination to the awards, but like all films no matter what the genre, it is the top prize that the producers want.
In its favour is the fact that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has increased the nominations to ten, making it more likely that Star Trek will get a nomination, but will that be as far as they are willing to go this year.
Science Fiction has always been a grey area when it comes to the Oscars and Star Trek has always been the sort of maverick of film industry, but this time JJ and his crew could win something.
