With two days to go before the much anticipated science fiction film of the year is released, District 9 is already being hailed as the best film of the 21st century.
The hype for the film has developed over the past few months with an excellent viral marketing campaign that uses the theme of the film. The title District 9, comes from a reference to the inner city area of 1960’s Cape Town in South Africa.
Posters and a website that show an apartheid type feeling amongst the people who see the aliens as a threat to normal life. It is significant that the aliens have landed in South Africa where the arrival is treated in a similar way.
District goes on general release in the US on the 14th August.
