Gongrats for the nomination Mark. Have you read the winner novel by Weeks? I have not read him because his books didnt sound too appealing whenever i saw them. Too much like Hobb type fantasy going by synopsis.

No, I've not read any work by any of the Legend nominees. My son tried the first Weeks trilogy and didn't like it, then tried Robin Hobb's Assassin trilogy and liked that quite a bit. So perhaps if you don't like Hobb you will like Weeks! I'm a fan of Robin Hobb's work myself, but I've heard a lot of good things about The Blinding Knife by people whose opinion I respect...

Tough year for awards. Weeks winning the Gemmell - I haven't read anything by Weeks yet, but from what I gather he seems like a poor man's Sanderson (who himself is not a great writer). And the Hugo was won by the truly bad (I had to put it down after 100ish pages) Redshirts by Scalzi.

Congratulations on the nomination, Mark. 'King' was great, but in my opinion 'Emperor' was easily your, um, crowning thorn. :D So hopefully we'll see you up there again next year!

Thanks :) But next year I expect to be drowned by the twin tsunamis that are Scott Lynch and Peter Brett (each of whom also has a 3rd book in the running).
