The POI team’s war with HR nears a boiling point when Finch receives 38 numbers at once from The Machine. He discovers they are connected to an unknown player who is inciting an all-out war between the crime organization and the Russian mob. Meanwhile, a window into Carter’s past is seen through flashbacks with her son’s father.

No comments? I thought it was a pretty good ep. Kinda conventional but I liked it. Not sure how they're going to smooth over the Big Change though, or live with it if they don't. And where was Amy/Root/Samantha? Anyway - just checking in.

I really thought Carter was going to die, but no, it looks like Reese will (as we predicted earlier in the Season). Is that the 'Big Change' you refer to? (I don't read spoilers so don't answer.)

Why did the machine come up with all those numbers if they weren't going to die? I thought it was infallible! Shouldn't it have come up with.... Reece?

Have to see the next episode!

It's not a spoiler - I don't know anything about it but I don't expect Reese to die - but I meant the "now everybody in the underworld has a face to go with the suit" thing. This would presumably change everything about his day-to-day operations and make things more difficult.

As far as the Machine and the numbers, that is often a weak point of the show. It can be excused by saying that the Machine's omniscience is kind of psychohistorical - it was right that all those people were in danger with everyone moving without being aware someone was aware of them but once it informs the team, they become conscious actors and it may not be capable of perfect extrapolation from that point - though it sure didn't do a bad job with Groves and Shaw with the gun under the bench and so on. (Then again, maybe the machine didn't actually plan for Groves to be imprisoned again.) I dunno - just some possibilities, maybe. :)

Sorry, I understand now. Still, they have set up the show so that Shaw could take his place, and looking at the next episode, the machine does produce Reece's number. They are, of course, playing with us. Or not?
