I mentioned this on a previous thread, but as I have just received a piece of art from Carl Critchlow for my next magical/pagan fantasy anthology, which means both of my m/p anthologies will be proudly showing CC cover art, I thought it was worth mentioning again.

If there is an artist you genuinely admire, do not be reticent about dropping them an email. Don't worry that they are too successful to bother with replying. Just say hello. And don't beat about the bush, most can spot flattery-as-a-prelude-to-begging. Express your admiration, introduce yourself and say, in the second or third paragraph, that you have a book in need of a cover and you were wondering if they had anything available. Never forget to ask about price, you can never assume that the artist IS actually financially successful and/or generous. Above all, be genuine and tell no lies.

Even if they have no art available, don't do that sort of thing etc, you are possibly on the way to establishing a rapport with someone who's work you appreciate - which is a fine thing.

I saw some fantastic SFF art at World Fantasy Con recently. If ever in the market for it, I may just take your advice (if I can still remember their names by then!)

Devient art is another good place too look on this front as well.

Isn't Carl the artist who did Thrud the Barbarian?

He is. And the Thrud hardback collection has just been released - Amazon has it. Or signed copies can be ordered from Forbidden Planet.
