I'm invading established fantasy worlds

Anyone ever had the characters/kingdoms/armies they invented subjugate or battle places like Middle Earth, Westeros, etc? They're ramblings moreso than anything coherent but I get a kick out of it. :D

Its a great exercise to learn more about your own world.

It would be a fine idea if, once you had subjugated and destroyed them - they didn't make a comeback and fill the shelves at the supermarket, being replaced by, of course - your book.

Exactly, your testing the loyalty you have for your own characters when you have them face worlds you loved as a kid. My group of Hashashins got slaughtered by a group of Mirkwood Elves and I changed their entire structure/modus operandi and missions for the better.

I once did a very short snippet piece about one of the Children of the Lens casually walking into Lothlorien and joining in with the Fellowship's meeting with Galadriel and Celeborn. Of course, levels of raw power are difficult to translate between universes; but IMHO such a meeting would be rather like a meeting with a Maia.

Fantasy protagonists vary greatly in power, of course. Mine vary from slightly above average human to demigod. IMHO the real challenge with powerful MCs is not making their job too easy. I believe that the result of failing that challenge goes by the name "Mary Sue"?

My novel right now pits mythological characters against each other, ones who are from completely separate religions. My favorite is an encounter between Thor and Ares...HUGE rivals in my universe who flaunt about the place like they own it and end up having a massive sword on axe battle in the fish department of a supermarket. Believe you me, the halibut do not look happy.

I think it's hilarious and fascinating when someone crosses the universes or inserts their own characters into places.

i once did a bit of a thing about the one ring... and how orcs came to be... and what happened to the lost children, and when the cities were attacked by dragons....
and the further adventures of legolas and gimli.. all tied together. it came out to about 450,000 words with the songs and poems and all... i even illustrated the thing...
i had to introduce and develope a few characters... does that count?
